Features & Performance of the Hikvision Fixed IR Dome IP Network CCTV Camera
The Hikvision DS-2CD2141G1-IDW1 has quite many features to bring you an amazing monitoring experience. However, the features we’ve liked best on the PoE security camera include:
-
Go for Wired or Wireless Connectivity
The Hikvision CCTV camera has multiple network protocols to configure/ set up: wireless WiFi & wired PoE. In the wireless WiFi protocol, the camera is compatible with up to 802.11n (WiFi 4) standards on 2.4GHz. Hence, the reason we see the manufacturer advertise it is with a wireless signal range of up to 50 m (164ft).
If you’d like to do the CCTV installation further than 50 meters from your internet router, you can now choose the PoE option. The camera has a single RJ45/ Ethernet port that lets you connect with the router up to 100 meters (328.08 ft).
-
Use as a Standalone or Add to a Recorder
As an IP network CCTV, the camera is able to capture and process a digital video signal on its own. Thus, allowing you to use it as either a standalone or an addition to an NVR/ hybrid DVR.
If you prefer a standalone setup (without a recorder), either of the two network protocols (WiFi or PoE) will work. Then, the video surveillance camera has a built-in slot for a MicroSD card to save the footage it captures.
On the other hand, the LAN/ PoE port on the Hikvision dome camera allows you to add it to a video recorder. The recorder can be either an NVR or a Hybrid DVR with an IP camera channel, such as the Hikvision 16-Channel 1080p Turbo HD.
Furthermore, the IP network CCTV camera has ONVIF support, making it compatible with ONVIF-compliant recorders from other brands.
-
2x Clearer Image than 1080p CCTV Camera
Hikvision has added this IP network CCTV camera with a 4MP image sensor that captures your moments in up to 2K Quad-HD (QHD) quality. Quad-HD has a native resolution of 2560 × 1440, which is about 2x richer in details than a CCTV in full HD (1080p) resolution.
When it now comes to collecting evidence, the network camera can record in 2K QHD at a frame rate of 20fps. If you want a much smoother video, the 30fps mode is available from 2K Full HD (2304 × 1296) resolution
-
Clear, Long-Range Night Vision
Immediately after the daylight is turned off, the automatic IR cut filter of the CCTV camera activates the built-in 850nm night LED. The default night vision is in Infrared (black & white) quality, with a range of up to 30 meters (about 100ft).
In case desired, you can continue to monitor the CCTV in full color at night. However, the camera doesn’t have its built-in white light, which means you’ll have to provide external lighting for that.
-
Hear what the Intruders are Saying
Hikvision innovated the 2K QHD dome camera with a built-in microphone. The mic allows the camera to record videos with audio of the things going around in the background. Thus, when you playback, the video will be less boring and with more details of the people/ activity in the background. I mean, you might recognize the voice of the intruders or catch their names.
Tip: The Hikvision CCTV camera only supports a one-way audio function by default as it doesn’t have a built-in speaker. However, you can add an external speaker to the speaker.
-
Smart Motion Detection Alerts in Real Time
After setting up the Hikvision 4MP CCTV camera with your internet, you can set up the basic motion detection feature. When a person or object enters the frame (within the field of view) of the camera, it will push remote alerts to your email or app.
Besides the basic motion detection, the camera has a smart detection function to enhance the monitoring experience further with perimeter protection. The perimeter protection consists of features like video tampering detection.
-
Reduce Storage & Bandwidth Consumption with HEVC
Hikvision DS-2CD2141G1-IDW1 records footage in up to 4MP quality and with audio. The camera also includes recording in up to 24/ 7 continuous mode (plus scheduled and event). So, it would use quite a large space of the local storage you’ve installed- a MicroSD card or hard drive disk.
On the positive, the 2K camera supports up to the HEVC (high-efficiency video coding) video compression- also called H.265. Compared to the standard H.264 codec, H.265 usually cuts the storage and bandwidth consumption by more than 50%
-
An All-Environment, All-Weather CCTV Camera
The 2K network camera has a well-made build, with IP66 ingress protection. Thus, you can mount outdoors (to monitor outside your building) without having to worry about damage by dust or rain.
The camera has an operating temperature of -30 °C to +60 °C (-22 °F to +140 °). And for that, you’ll get to keep an eye on your property all year round.
